Keeping up with growth and 3,000 routes.
Ross Computer Systems helps Snyder’s-Lance take DSD solutions into expanding markets
Imagine managing information for a manufacturer and distributor of snack foods, who is also a distributor for 100 other manufacturers, and who also has independent operators, company routes, bin locations and warehouses to keep track of. That’s Dave Thomas’ job for Snyder’s-Lance. “We pretty much do it all. Our biggest challenge is just keeping up. We’ve grown a lot in the last few years.”
During the seven years since the selection process that led to Snyder’s-Lance choosing Ross, the number of Snyder’s-Lance direct store delivery (DSD) routes has more than doubled. “The Ross folks are very knowledgeable in the DSD route accounting space. We use their base software with some customization to meet our unique business needs. The software itself is very flexible and user friendly. We’ve been able to leverage it to grow our business,” notes Thomas.
Mergers and acquisitions present new challenges for Thomas. “We work well with Ross in developing new processes with the handheld device to meet needs within a given market.”
With DSD accounting for 80% of sales, Snyder’s-Lance partnership with Ross provides a common platform for sales staff, route drivers, sales management, district managers, and regional managers to access the daily information necessary to run the business.
